SUMMARY:MTRI "Early Spring Plants & Amphibians" Bioblitz Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute is hosting a 20 day iNaturalist BioBlitz in Kespukwitk\, Southwest Nova Scotia. Register for MTRI’s second Spring BioBlitz walk here! \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/…/spring-plants-amphibians… \nThis walk will feature some early spring plants and amphibians\, some of our first signs of spring! We recommend participants show up with comfortable and weather appropriate hiking shoes and clothing. Binoculars are encouraged as well as a camera or phone to take pictures with! \nMTRI has been hosting BioBlitz events since in 2020 and is excited to continue this tradition that encourages our understanding of the flora\, fauna\, and fungi that call Kespukwitk home. This year we are encouraging participants to look for early signs of spring\, such as tree buds\, emerging amphibians\, or even lingering flocks of sea ducks. Observations that do not fit into this category are welcome as well! \nGet out and look for signs of spring and get to know your local organisms as they emerge! Join us for guided walks to boost your ID skills. Join the iNaturalist project here: \nhttps://www.inaturalist.org/…/sixth-annual-spring… \nTo participate\, log on to iNaturalist and submit your photos to this project and help others with their identifications. Participate in guided walks and learn from experts. Those who submit three or more observations will be eligible to win prizes and stickers! \nVisit us at https://www.merseytobeatic.ca/ to learn more about our mission.

SUMMARY:TransCoastal Adaptations Level 1 Green Shores Training
DESCRIPTION:TCA has scheduled TWO Level 1 training opportunities for HRM residents. These training opportunities are provided FREE\, thanks to support from the Halifax Regional Municipality and the Ecology Action Centre\, as part of the Living Lakeshores Project. \n\nVisit transcoastaladaptations.com/events  to register.\n\n\nVisit transcoastaladaptations.com/green-shores to learn more about how the Green Shores program can help you support healthy and sustainable ocean and lake shores!\n\n\nQuestions? Email transcoastaladaptations@smu.ca\n\nGreen Shores® is a program originally created by the Stewardship Centre for BC\, and has recently expanded and updated to be applicable in the Maritimes! Green Shores provides anyone working on a lake or ocean shoreline with a system of credits and ratings to optimize the benefits that the project provides to both the project manager/homeowner\, and to the environment. Level 1 training is a great introduction to the program and covers shoreline ecology\, governance\, and climate change adaptation measures\, with the ability to apply what is learned to a real shoreline in the afternoon.

SUMMARY:Leave No Trace Hike with Kingsburg Coastal Conservancy
DESCRIPTION:Meet at Riverport Community Centre Parking Lot at 9:00am\, carpool to Feltzen South for the hike.\nPlease wear appropriate outdoor clothing including footwear appropriate for hiking. \n\nJoin with KCC members and Jody Conrad\, a founding member of Leave No Trace Canada and the first Leave No\nTrace Master Educator in Canada\, as we learn and discuss the seven principles of Leave No Trace while enjoying\na local trail. \n\n“As more and more of us seek out natural areas for recreation and solitude\, each of us adopting a corresponding\npersonal wilderness ethic becomes more and more important in order to protect the areas that we all love. The\nseven principles of Leave No Trace provide a framework of practices and techniques that encourage minimal\nimpact on nature for anyone venturing into the outdoors. Each of the principles\, which are widely recognized in\nCanada and internationally\, covers a specific topic and offers detailed information on how to minimize both our\necological and social impacts in the outdoors. Originally developed for the back country\, the seven Leave No Trace\nprinciples can be applied to remote wilderness areas\, local parks\, and urban backyards. In fact\, they are suited for\nalmost any outdoor recreational activity.” \n\nThere is limited space for this event\, so please register by email below to reserve your place: contact@kccns.org
